Featured Vlogs from February 12

We've been in class for four weeks now, and students have gone through the process of setting up a blog, powering it with a Feedburner feed, and adding video via their Blip.tv accounts. We'll be continuing to work on blog customization, but for now we just want to get the process in motion. Each student was asked to post a video incorporating Direct Address this week. Here are some exciting results of this assignment. Please explore the Nervosas links to see the rest.

HemoBlog Arizona by Peter

A vlog that helps young people with hemophilia make the transition to adulthood and becoming responsible for managing their life long health care options.

Think Like a Nurse by Margaret

This vlog will serve as a resource of practical strategies to facilitate the development of critical thinking skills in student nurses.

Vlog Me, I Love It by Dale

A vlog from a Photoshop expert. There can be no explanation for this one. You just have to see it.

Wandering Attention! by Shane

Things that strike Shane's fancy. This is his intro video.

What's Web 2.0?

Web 2.0: The Web Is Us/ing Us

Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, made this hugely popular video that succinctly expresses what we mean by the term Web 2.0. It's appropriate to revlog it here as we begin our own exploration of Web 2.0 technologies in our attempts to forge more people-centric connections. Let the Web unite us.

Alternately, see the video in context on YouTube.

WebCam Test

This is a test of the vlogademia nervosa system. This is only a test. Do not panic.

We got web cams in the classroom to enable students who do not own video recording devices to create video for their class vlogs. This is just me demonstrating the process of video capture/compression/posting.

Welcome to Vlogademia Nervosa

You've arrived at the central web page for the Spring 2006 Phoenix College course on videoblogging. We meet Monday nights from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the PC Downtown campus. I'm the instructor, Cheryl Colan, and soon you'll meet the rest of the class. There are no prerequisites for taking this course, so you'll need to bear with us as we learn to shoot, capture and edit video, compress it for the web, and get it into a blog. Once the students pick their themes and get rolling, this site will link to their vlogs and feature some of their episodes.

We have a very exciting group, including several Maricopa Community Colleges faculty. I think you'll enjoy what they produce, and I know I'll enjoy seeing them evolve as vloggers.

For the first night of class, we brainstormed names for this class vlog, and eventually voted for Vlogademia Nervosa, which reflects our current state of mind. We're learning to vlog in an academic setting, and we're a little nervous about this whole new videoblogging thing. Join us on our journey of discovery.
